Everybody who knows me, knows that I’m a tough, cynical Israeli badass – who melts into a puddle at the sight of an adorable kid. What? Even Achilles had a heel, you know.
Anyway, if you love kids, you’re in for a treat. And if you hate kids, I’m about to TURN YOU. Welcome to the dark side, my friends – it’s all sugar and spice here.
Oh, and Tracy and Ryan got married or whatever.

It’s a lot of pictures for a blog post. I know. I couldn’t choose. Next time I’ll show more restraint.

For weeks, the forecast was for a weather apocalypse on May 8th. I came to this wedding totally outfitted with rain gear for my cameras. Do you remember last Saturday? Prettiest day of the goddamn year.
This was Nina and Ross’s wedding: full of happy little surprises. The slightly high-strung (sorry Nina) bride was the most chilled out person at the wedding. The wry and stoic groom completely broke down at his father’s speech. We went to take portraits at Bethesda fountain and were accompanied by a jazzy, impromptu sax rendition of the wedding march – not to mention the applause of a good chunk of NYC’s population, enjoying a spring day in the park.
My favorite part? Ross paying the price for marrying into a Jewish family with his first terrifying hora dancing experience. Surprise!
On to some photos. Nina reminds me so much of this Sargent painting:

Am I right? I’m referencing his cool-tone color palette in this set. I had a great backdrop for it at the sweetly quirky Hotel Elisee.

So: Why does Adam call Erin by the affection nickname “skillz”? I have a few ideas. Here’s one: When I jokingly asked her to climb a tree in Central Park, she leapt onto a high branch – in her dress – without batting an eyelash. Girl is STRONG. She could beat you up. She probably won’t, but just in case? Don’t piss her off.
Some of my favorite things about this wedding:
1. Softshell crab AND steak – the ultimate surf and turf
2. Erin’s teddy bear of a dad using baseball signals for general communication
3. Erin and Adam tending bar at their after party
4. The biggest, toughest guys I’ve ever seen – weeping like little girls
In between all the revelry, I found a moment here and there to take a few shots. Check it:

Following a whirlwind romance of a mere decade, Regina and Nikolai are making it official in DUMBO this September. We bonded over our love of brooklyn and talked shit about Manhattan as we traipsed around the BEST BOROUGH YEAH REPRESENT!!

We all ended up drunk by the end of this shoot. Thanks for dinner you guys!

I was embarrassingly pumped to kick off the wedding season yesterday. Bring it on, 2010 – I’m going to shoot the hell out of you!
Lauren and Scott at the breathtaking Angel Orensanz Foundation:

How great is cake, right? One of it’s massive advantages over runner-up pie is how pretty it can be. Case in point: Betty Bakery, a local shop on 448 Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn. This quirky storefront sells, among other things, cakes from Cheryl Kleinman Cakes and Bijoux doux.

Sweet!
I am awed by this woman’s tolerance for cold. Holy mackerel.
A marathon engagement shoot on the crappiest day of the year. But we made it, and it was worth it.

So, it’s valentine’s day. I’m a foreigner and my husband is – well, a guy; so we never really went for the whole V-day thing. Nonetheless, if you want to romance your significant other, you could do worse than take a few ideas from my sweetie.
1) the mix tape is a classic – but make it personal. When M made this for me, he knew that
a. my favorite word was “defenestrate”
b. my favorite book was the OED – condensed version, that you have to read with a magnifying glass, and
c. my favorite sock animal was (and still is) a sock monkey.

2) Give her a sweet note when she’s got a tough day.

3) tell her she’s pretty.

4) take care of her when she’s sick.

5) make her feel better if she accidentally dyes her hair black and totally hates it.

6) let her know that you appreciate her.

7) Avoid cliches. Embrace awesomeness.

Lovely folk/country/hybrid/singer/songwriter Annie Crane asked me to shoot some promo pics for her, and we had a grand ole time.

Annie’s been on tour but is now performing in NYC again. Check her site for dates if you want to give a listen!
Here’s how the CD turned out, designed by Moselle Spiller:

Annie’s marrying her sweetheart Eric this June in Rochester and I’ll be shooting it, so stay tuned for those photos. Rochester is a trek from here, but hey – it is the birthplace of Eastman Kodak. So kind of a pilgrimage to Mecca for me, really.
